Purpose

SWAN was founded in September 2003 to serve the needs of stroke and brain injury survivors. It is now expanded to serve those with neurological conditions other than stroke. Therapy at SWAN is based on the philosophy that motor function can continue to improve regardless of the age of the individual or how many years have passed since the stroke or injury.

Program

  • SWAN evaluates each patient and apprises them of their current level of functioning and their potential for improvement.
  • SWAN utilizes techniques that have been researched and proven effective including constraint-induced therapy for those who meet functional criteria.
  • SWAN designs task repetitions essential to retrain the individual muscles and brain.
  • SWAN provides therapy that is intense, and tailored to the individual in a supportive enriched environment.
  • SWAN employs the latest equipment in neurological advances for stroke rehabilitation.
  • SWAN discharges each patient with a personalized written home program to maintain progress made in therapy and to continue improvement in function.
  • SWAN provides one-on-one treatment without the interruptions of documentation or charting.

Credentials

  • SWAN is staffed by physical and occupational therapists specially trained in neurological rehabilitation.
  • SWAN works closely with Kinetic Muscles, Inc.; Mobility Research; Bioness, Inc; Motorica; and Arizona State University's Industrial Design Department as they develop technologies for the treatment of stroke.
  • SWAN works with A.T. Still University on clinical research for gait and upper extremity function.
  • Kay Wing, Director, teaches courses throughout the United States for Mobility Research on body weight support treadmill training as well as PNF, a therapeutic exercise approach.

"Peggy and I are well pleased with the results from the therapy. Kay and her expert staff strive to give patients the best therapy. Each and every staff member is so professional, knowledgeable, and gives their patients the very best therapy possible. Now on the fourth week at the Swan Rehab Rehabilitation Center we see a positive improvement in Peggy's walking, balancing, and her mobility of her affected hand. Peggy and I are well pleased with the results from the therapy."
